Steven Spielberg is considered one of the most successful movie director-producers in history.
His father worked in developing computers and his mother was a concert pianist and he was the oldest of four children.
Spielberg attended Arcadia High School in Phoenix and graduated from Saratoga High School, California.
It was here at Arcadia, using 8 mm film, he became interested in making movies.
Spielberg became distant from his father because of family problems which led to a marriage breakdown.
When he was 13, Steven Spielberg won an award for a movie he produced called "Escape to Nowhere."
At age 16, his movie "Firelight" was played at a local theater bringing in $100.
After high school, he attended California State University majoring in English.
Spielberg claims he set up and worked out of an office in a janitor's closet on the Universal Studios lot.
He developed a successful film called "Amblin" which brought him to the notice of Universal.
His first real break came in 1975 with the movie "Jaws" which won three Academy awards.
Spielberg set up a production studio company called "Amblin Entertainment" which worked with various movie studios.
In 1994, Steven Spielberg and a group of investors set up a new major movie studio called "Dreamworks".
His films continued to have huge financial success grossing all-time highs for total income.
Steven Spielberg projects have captured many awards and he personally has won several Academy Awards for directing.
