Ruth Ann Minner

Ruth Ann Minner is the first elected female Governor of Delaware.
Minner did not have an easy life as a youth and left school at age 16 to help support her family.
Later she qualified for a GED and attended the Delaware Technical and Community College.
She has twice been a widow and has three sons, all by her first husband.
She helped build a successful towing service with her second husband, Roger Minner.
Ruth Ann Minner picked up her interest in politics working as a clerk in the Delaware State House of Representatives.
She also did receptionist work for the governor at the time, Sherman Tribitt.
After this "apprenticeship", in 1974, Minner offered and was elected to the Delaware House of Representatives.
Minner proved her worth as she diligently performed her duties as a representative of a small town rural area through four terms of office.
In 1982, Ruth Ann Minner took another step in her political career and was elected to the Delaware Senate.
Ten years later, this dedicated politician was elected to the office of Lieutenant Governor.
Minner chose to complete the second term of Governor Carper who resigned in 2001 to become a US Senator.
Soon she was duly elected to the position and continued serving the people of Delaware.
Minner has supported many projects that have benefited Delaware.
She has been honored by being selected BIO Governor of the Year.
Ruth Ann Minner sums up her political success by her philosophy, "Work hard. Do the right thing. And leave things better than you found them".
