Linda McCartney was a multi-talented individual whose natural ability reflected most in her photography.
Her father was a lawyer who often represented musicians such as Tommy Dorsey.
McCartney's mother came from a wealthy family but died in a plane accident when McCartney was still a teenager.
Following graduation from the Scarsdale High School, McCartney enrolled at the University of Arizona.
Studying for a Fine Arts degree, Linda McCartney began to develop her abilities in photography.
McCartney returned to New York and, while working for a magazine, was assigned to do a photo shoot of the Rolling Stones.
It was around this time, while employed for the Rolling Stone magazine, she earned a reputation as a photographer of musicians and entertainers.
She developed close relationships with many music stars and in 1967 fell in love with and married Paul McCartney of the famous Beatles group.
She convinced her husband to join her in life style as a vegetarian.
McCartney's photographs were being shown in photo exhibitions and museums around the world.
She also wrote books on the vegetarian life and wrote a best seller vegetarian cookbook called Linda McCartney's Home Cooking.
When the Beatles disbanded in 1970, Linda McCartney joined her husband's band Wings as a singer and piano player.
She was credited as co-writing a number of songs including the Grammy award winning Live and Let Die.
McCartney developed a reputation as an animal-rights activist and spokesperson for such groups as PETA.
In 1991, she formed a successful company called Linda McCartney Foods which featured vegetarian food products.
Four years later, McCartney was found to have breast cancer and she made a public but unsuccessful fight against the dreaded disease.
Linda McCartney was honored by PETA with the creation of a Linda McCartney Memorial Award which is given to individuals who promote animal welfare.
