Faith Hill, born Audrey Faith Perry, is one of country music's most successful crossover stars.
An adopted child, her father was a factory worker and her mother a former bank teller.
She took naturally to singing at home and performed for a 4-H club luncheon when she was only seven years old.
By age 17, Faith Hill had formed her own band that played in local rodeos.
After high school, Hill went to a community college but dropped out after two years and moved to Nashville.
She auditioned to be a backup singer for Reba McEntire but failed to get the assignment so she became an assistant for the popular singer.
She went to work in the office of singer-songwriter Gary Morris where she became a demo singer for Morris.
Faith Hill was "discovered" by a Warner Brothers representative when she was singing at the Bluebird Cafe.
Her debut album, Take Me as I Am, proved very successful selling over three million copies.
In 1994, Hill toured as the opening act for several star singers including Reba McEntire.
Hill's second album It Matters to Me, released in 1995, established Hill as a definite popular country singer.
She then teamed up with country singer Tim McGraw and they began touring together.
During their first tour Hill and McGraw fell in love and in October, 1996, were married
When Faith Hill released her third album in 1998, it marked the start of her superstar status as she had hits in both the country and pop music venues.
Hill continued her success over the next decade and, in addition, duets she recorded with McGraw also became solid hits.
She has received many honors including four People's Choice awards.
